A local man was killed Wednesday evening in Limassol when he was struck by a taxi under circumstances still under investigation.
According to police, the fatal incident took place around 8:30pm on Makarios Avenue, when 60-year-old Yiannakis Kleovoulou from Limassol was attempting to cross the street.
Kleovoulou was struck by a taxi and was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital, where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
Media reports said the incident took place just before the Simillides traffic lights, as the taxi was east-bound and struck Kleovoulou as he was attempting to walk across from south in a northerly direction.
The taxi driver aged 63, also from Limassol, was detained by police and questioned over the incident. He was also administered alcohol and drug tests, both of which indicated no use of substances.
Police are investigating the incident.
