Man critical after Limassol hit and run

Driver who struck an Israeli pedestrian in Yermasoyia and fled the scene later turned himself in

A man is in critical condition after he was struck by an oncoming car in Limassol, while the driver who fled the scene later reported to a local police station.

According to police, a 37-year-old Israeli national was struck while walking on foot on Saturday morning in Yermasoyia, an eastern suburb of Limassol.

Local media said the man was under the influence after a night of drinking and was walking in the middle of the road when a car hit him shortly after 5:30am. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene of the accident, while authorities said they were searching for the car and driver.

The man was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital where doctors on duty said he suffered multiple fractures and internal bleeding.

Police later said a 37-year-old Greek Cypriot man showed up at a local station and said he was the driver involved in the incident, leting authorities know he was ready to turn himself in if necessary.
