Elderly driver very critical after GSP roundabout accident, young driver has mental breakdown


An elderly driver who exited his pickup truck at a roundabout on the highway just outside Nicosia is in critical condition after he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

According to police, a 67-year-old man from Nicosia was rushed to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital, after he was struck by an oncoming vehicle on Tuesday afternoon around 5pm.

Details of the accident indicated that the 67-year-old had stopped his pickup truck on the roundabout outside the GSP Stadium and was standing right behind his vehicle when a north-bound car driven by a 20-year-old male driver slammed into the pedestrian.

The elderly man was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit where he underwent emergency surgery. He was said to be in “extremely critical condition” while police are investigating the incident.

Media reports said the 20-year-old driver had a nervous breakdown following the incident.
