Nominations for the June European elections are being submitted today from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the General Election Commissioner, located at the "Filoxenia" Conference Centre.
Menelaos Vasileiou, Head of the Election Service, has coordinated with the Central Election Commission (CEC) to establish designated time slots for each political combination and individual candidate, ensuring an orderly process.
The schedule was as follows: Ecologists-Citizens' Coalition Movement at 08:30, AKEL-Left-Social Alliance at 09:00, Active Citizens-Movement of United Cypriot Hunters at 09:15, National Drasis Movement at 09:30, Andronikos Zervides at 09:45, EDEK at 10:00, Democratic Party at 10:15, BALT Cyprus at 10:30, NIKI at 10:45, National Popular Front (ELAM) at 11:00, Democratic Party-Coalition of Democratic Forces at 11:15, Party for Cyprus Animals at 11:30, Phidias Panayiotou at 11:45, and Democratic Synergy at 12:15.
Each nomination requires a fee of EUR 1,000. According to Vasileiou, objections can be raised within 24 hours after the conclusion of the nomination process, citing specific legal grounds.
Following the submission of nominations, the next step is the printing of the ballot papers.
As of now, the Chief Electoral Officer has announced that the total number of eligible voters for the upcoming elections stands at 706,534.
The permanent electoral roll, granting voting rights for all elections, comprises 568,608 Cypriot voters, including 837 Turkish Cypriots holding Republic of Cyprus identity cards with addresses in the free areas. The breakdown of voters by Province is as follows:
Additionally, the special electoral roll for European citizens includes 13,017 voters, while 103,269 Turkish Cypriots holding Republic of Cyprus identity cards, and residing in areas beyond the effective control of the Republic, are included in the special electoral roll for the election of Members of the European Parliament.
Furthermore, 4,725 voters have registered to vote in the European Parliament elections in various cities abroad, including Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Komotini, Volos, Heraklion, Ioannina, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Brussels.
