The Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines have been declared safe and approved for use as a 3rd dose in the UK.
The UK Medicines and Drug Regulatory Authority announced that Pfizer can be given as a third dose to anyone regardless of the previous first 2 doses they received. However, the AstraZeneca vaccine can only be given as a third dose to those who have already had AstraZeneca as their first two.
The approval brings the UK one step closer to launching a third-dose program for all British residents. But the recommendation of the Immunization Committee regarding boosters for single dose vaccines such as the Johnson & Johnson will come later this week.
The NHS Public Health System has already drawn up plans to launch the vaccination program, which will be based on first vaccinating the most vulnerable citizens.
