A 28-year-old Indian food distributor was attacked on Thursday night in what authorities are investigating as a racially motivated assault. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM in the Ayios Athanasios area of Limassol.
According to Marinos Vasileiou, Deputy Press Spokesman for the Limassol Police Department, the victim was working as a delivery driver when he was followed by four individuals on two motorcycles. They began kicking him, causing him to fall to the ground. The attackers then used clubs to beat him. In an effort to escape, the delivery man managed to run into a nearby kiosk, where three of the assailants followed him and continued the assault.
With assistance from a bystander, the 28-year-old called the police. Officers from the Limassol CID and the OPE responded promptly to the scene. A patrol later located a suspicious vehicle in the area carrying three individuals, aged 33, 21, and 29. After questioning, the victim identified two of the suspects, leading police to issue arrest warrants for all three, who are expected to appear in Limassol District Court today.
The attackers reportedly attempted to steal the victim's phone and cash but were unsuccessful. The delivery worker sustained only minor injuries during the attack.
The Limassol CID is actively investigating the case. Community leaders are emphasizing the importance of safety for all residents and denouncing any form of violence or discrimination. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they work to ensure such incidents do not happen again.
