A scandal has erupted on social media after a woman publicly accused a group of foreigners of filming unsuspecting women on beaches in swimsuits and posting the videos on YouTube.

Marianna Demetriou detailed her experience in an Instagram post, stating that she confronted a man she caught filming her. According to Demetriou, the man apologized when she challenged him.

Social media users have since identified a specific YouTube account posting such videos, urging others to report the content en masse.

Details of Demetriou’s complaint

The Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, Irene Loizidou Nicolaidou, has responded to the incident, highlighting the surge in unauthorized posting of videos and photos of individuals. She noted that these actions fall under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and violations can result in administrative and criminal penalties.

Nicolaidou emphasized the importance of respecting individuals' rights and urged social media users to comply with legal requirements when posting content.
