Should sexual education in primary schools be reevaluated?

The battle over sexual education in primary schools

Newsroom

In a significant exchange of perspectives, Archbishop George engaged in a dialogue on the crucial issue of sexual education in primary schools. This thought-provoking discussion unfolded on Monday, as he met with representatives from the Federation of Primary School Parents' Associations of Nicosia.

Emphasizing the essence of their stance, the Federation underscored the need for responsible guidance within schools, particularly by well-trained educators.

They stressed that children today are exposed to a myriad of information, and sometimes misinformation, making it imperative to provide them with appropriate material tailored to their age and developmental stages.

It's noteworthy that sexual education is an integral component of the Health Education curriculum. This subject has been part of the educational landscape since 2011, and it follows a specific curriculum.

In 2017, the curriculum underwent its latest revision, with a core objective of advancing the mental, physical, and social well-being of our children. This ongoing discourse highlights the importance of equipping young learners with the knowledge and guidance they need in this ever-evolving landscape.
