An incident with a bus carrying students on a school trip came to light on Wednesday after a video emerged on social media about two wheels coming off the vehicle as it was moving on the highway.
Local officials said there were no injuries when two wheels came off a bus carrying students on the highway from Limassol to Larnaca, saying the driver managed to keep the vehicle steady and passengers were able to get off safely.
Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades described the incident as “an unacceptable situation” and noted that the bus in question had passed an inspection recently.
Additional reports suggesting the there was a change of tires days earlier have not been confirmed.
A similar incident took place in November 2022, also in Limassol, when a wheel came off a bus outside a learning center.
Reports after last year’s incident said the bus had been on the highway moments earlier, adding there were no victims while noting there had been many young children outside the school a few minutes before the incident.
