Authorities in Famagusta are intensifying efforts to address a series of alarming incidents involving robbery, terror-inducing weapons, and attempted theft reported last night. The police took swift action, apprehending a 27-year-old suspect early this morning to aid their inquiries.
The first incident unfolded in Ayia Napa, where a 29-year-old woman reported being robbed in her apartment around 8:40 p.m. Allegedly, an unknown assailant brandishing a knife entered her home and coerced her into surrendering cash from her belongings. Subsequently, the perpetrator allegedly forced her into a vehicle and compelled her to withdraw additional funds from an ATM under threat.
Later that evening, a separate report was filed by a 37-year-old resident of Ayia Napa, who thwarted an attempted theft of his jet ski by two individuals in a car around 11:10 p.m.
In response to subsequent reports of suspicious activity, police located and stopped a vehicle matching the description provided by the earlier victim. The 27-year-old driver was found in possession of €924, which he could not adequately account for, leading to his arrest for alleged illegal possession of property. Further investigations tied him to the earlier robbery case based on witness testimony.
The suspect remains in custody pending a court appearance at the Famagusta District Court, where authorities anticipate seeking a detention order. The investigation into these troubling incidents continues under the diligent efforts of Famagusta police.
