Syrian man dies in scaffolding accident in Limassol

A young man was killed at a construction site in Limassol when he fell from scaffolding up on the fourth floor.

According to police, 22-year-old Omar Alkhani from Syria was working at a construction site in Limassol on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3pm, according to an official statement, Alkhani fell from the fourth floor under circumstances still pending investigation. The statement described the incident as a “work accident.”

The young man was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Additional reports said the Syrian national was an asylum applicant in the Republic of Cyprus, adding that there were no guardrails as the young man was putting together the scaffolding planks 12 metres above ground.

The Agios Ioannis police station is investigating the incident.
