A young man in Cyprus has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after a Larnaca court found him guilty of raping an elderly male patient with a mobility impairment.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, police sources said a woman in Larnaca filed a complaint on 1 July 2022, saying her 65-year-old brother had called her up to say he was being sexually abused by his male carer.
The brother, who lives with a physical disability including mobility issues, was purported to have stated to police in the presence of his carer, described as a foreign national from an Asian country, that he was raped twice by the suspect.
The foreign national was arrested on a court warrant and was ordered to face trial by a Larnaca criminal court, where a judge panel on Monday handed down a 12 year prison sentence.
No details about the case or trial have been made available.
