Renewed, bigger and better: Troodos International mountain race

The race is gradually becoming a landmark event for alpine running enthusiasts

Newsroom / CNA

Renewed, bigger and better is the ambition for the international mountain race BUFF® Troodos Mountain Ultra. The race will be held on September 22nd and will attract fans of mountain running from around the world. The race is gradually becoming a landmark event for alpine running enthusiasts and has placed Cyprus on the map of international sporting events.

Impressive are so far the number of entries, both by Cypriots and by runners from all over the world. The main staging area will be in Troodos Square, where runners will have the opportunity to be cheered by viewers.

The event was born out of a desire to introduce runners from around the world to Cyprus, ''the undiscovered trail running paradise in the Mediterranean’’. The island has an excellent climate and spectacular natural areas to explore from mountains and valleys dotted with small traditional villages to fertile plains and rocky coastal paths.

The Troodos Mountain Range is the highest in Cyprus, reaching a maximum height of 1952 meters at Mount Olympus. The forest includes indigenous pine and juniper trees with plenty of hiking trails and picnic sites.

Organized by One Step Further and Cyprus Trail Runners, the event is supported by the Troodos Development Company and the UNESCO Troodos Global Geopark, who embraced this effort to promote the geological richness and beauty of the Troodos Mountains.
