Two dogs were found alive after emergency rescuers in rural Larnaca rushed to a farm pit that was filled with disposed animal carcasses.

Police officers on Monday joined emergency rescuers, fire fighters, and wildlife administrators during an operation in rural Larnaca, where a pair of dogs were found in a pit filled with dead livestock.

Sources told Knews a rescue operation took place after staff from the state’s wildlife department alerted police to 'dogs tossed in an offal pit'

Sources told Knews a rescue operation took place after staff from the state’s wildlife department alerted law enforcement about "dogs tossed in an offal pit" in Kalo Chorio.

According to local media the dogs were alive inside the pit, which was situated on private property, while additional reports said both of the canines were badly injured and appeared to have been abused.

Days earlier the property owner had contacted local authorities and said stray dogs had attacked his goats on the farm, according to local media.

Police stopped short of linking the two incidents but investigators have not ruled out the possibility.
