Appliance company fined €30,000 for misleading consumers

The incident concerned 'discounted' products during 2020's Black Friday sales

Alpan Electroline Ltd. has been fined €30,000 by the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service for misleading sales practices.

The move comes after an investigation into the company's advertising practices during 2020's Black Friday sales.  According to the report, the company had advertised some products available for sale at deep discounts during the above time period, when in reality the products were either not discounted as advertised or the initial discount was less than advertised.

The company was found to be in violation of the Law on Unfair Commercial Practices and subsequently fined.

The decision by the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service has been published and can be found on its website at www.consumer.gov.cy.
