Earlier reports on Wednesday said the mother of a 5-month-old baby girl had accused her husband of raping their infant.

The father, who was arrested on Wednesday, told cops he was trying to change the diapers and he might have inadvertently caused damage

However, it later turned out that the accusation emerged at Makarios Children’s Hospital in Nicosia with the mother reluctant to agree to the allegations.

A state pathologist had examine the baby girl and determined that her hymen had been ruptured.

The mother, who was questioned by medical staff, said she saw inflammation in the genital area of her baby girl and asked her husband if he knew anything about it.

The father, who was arrested on Wednesday and remanded for five days, told investigators he was trying to change the diapers and he might have inadvertently caused damage.

He also said he was the one who told his wife they should take the baby to hospital.

The mother said none other than herself and her husband could have had access to the baby, while expressing her frustration over the broken hymen.

The father has categorically denied any sexual abuse allegations against his baby girl.
