Police said a 23-year-old woman was arrested on allegations that she assaulted her own child on Saturday, with media reports saying a neighbour reported the incident to authorities.
According to Kathimerini Cyprus, the child underwent a number of medical exams at Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors said it was in good health and there was no cause of concern. Local media reports cited minor injuries such as abrasions and swelling.
The mother, described as a foreign national, is expected to appear in court on Monday for a remand hearing. Police told Knews the woman has been detained based on the allegations and the case will be filed immediately for court trial.
The mother is facing child battery and common assault charges, while her child has been placed in state foster care.
