In a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, Professor Nikolaos Zamboglou will be honored with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by German Ambassador to Cyprus, Anke Schlimm. The award acknowledges Professor Zamboglou's significant contributions to medical care and his role in strengthening German-Cypriot relations.

The German Embassy in Cyprus announced that Professor Zamboglou, through his establishment of the German Oncology Centre, has not only enhanced cancer treatment in Cyprus but also bolstered ties between the two nations. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier bestowed this prestigious award upon Professor Zamboglou for his exceptional contributions to German-Cypriot relations in the medical field. The official award ceremony will be held at the residence of the German Ambassador.

Born in Limassol in 1949, Professor Zamboglou pursued physics studies at RWTH Aachen University before earning his doctorate in physics at the Institute of Medicine at the Jülich Research Centre of the University of Düsseldorf in 1977. He then embarked on a career in medicine, working as a specialist in radiotherapy and senior physician at various medical institutions in Germany.

After serving as President of the German Society of Radiation Oncology from 2003 to 2005, Professor Zamboglou returned to Cyprus in 2017 to establish the German Oncology Centre in Limassol, where he currently serves as medical director and CEO. The clinic, named after Germany, operates with German-made equipment, adheres to rigorous German standards, and employs a staff primarily trained in Germany.

Beyond its technical excellence, the clinic stands as a beacon of humanitarian efforts, providing advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment services. Integrated into Cyprus's national health system, the clinic serves as a modern hub for various specialized treatments, including radiotherapy, interventional radiology, and medical oncology.

The German Oncology Centre's establishment not only symbolizes the close ties between Cyprus and Germany but also embodies Professor Zamboglou's commitment to delivering top-notch medical care to all citizens of Cyprus.
