Authorities scramble after daytime gunfire

Newsroom

In a chilling incident reminiscent of recent fatal shootings in Limassol and Nicosia, organized crime once again sends shockwaves through authorities.

An audacious murder attempt unfolded in broad daylight on Monday in Aglandjia, as assailants opened fire on a vehicle carrying a 49-year-old and his two underage children.

The unsettling event occurred on the busy Larnaca Avenue, leaving citizens exposed to gunfire and raising concerns among both authorities and the community.

Police spokesperson Christos Andreou, speaking on ALPHA's "Good Morning" show, revealed that investigations are underway, with evidence collected from the scene aiding the inquiry.

Closed-circuit surveillance systems in the area will also be scrutinized for additional insights into the assailants' actions. Andreou remarked, "The attackers seemed ruthless, and seemingly nothing could deter them."

Today, the victim is expected to provide testimony, crucial for unlocking the case for prosecutors. Notably, the target has a known history with authorities, including involvement in drug-related issues.

Sources suggest a connection between the attempted murder victim and the late Alexis Mavromichalis, adding complexity to the unfolding investigation.

The timeline of the incident reveals that around 5:00 PM on Monday, unidentified individuals fired shots at the 49-year-old's vehicle on Larnaca Avenue in Aglandjia.

Both his 17-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter were on board. Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had stopped at a kiosk, and when his son returned to the car, the assailants unleashed gunfire, damaging the windshield and the passenger door's window.

As the community grapples with the brazen attack, authorities are intensifying efforts to unravel the motives behind this shocking daytime shooting.
