Health Minister Michael Damianos stated that the Disciplinary Council of the Pancyprian Medical Association (PMA) must complete its procedures before further action can be taken regarding a doctor convicted of indecent assault.
The doctor, who served a four-month prison sentence for indecent assault on a female patient, has resumed his duties after completing his court-imposed sentence.
"This procedure is currently before the Disciplinary Board of the PMA, so we have to wait for this procedure to be finished," Damianos said during a visit to the Nephrontida Medical Centre in Nicosia. He emphasized that similar protocols are followed internationally.
Regarding legislative regulation, Damianos mentioned the need to collaborate with PMA to ensure they have the necessary legal tools, always in line with broader legislation and constitutional provisions.
Meanwhile, during his visit to the Nephrontida Medical Centre, Damianos highlighted his Ministry's commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life for patients and enhance Cyprus's health system.
"This is a state-of-the-art center, which supports our fellow citizens with nephrological problems and operates with the latest equipment and qualified staff to ensure the high quality of care that patients deserve," he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the Nephrodida Centre's team for their dedication, professionalism, and significant contributions to the health sector.
Kyriakos Ioannou, the Medical Director of Nephrontida Centre, noted that approximately 1,300 patients in Cyprus suffer from end-stage renal failure, receiving treatment in both government hospitals and private facilities. He added that the center was established under the General Healthcare System (GESY), with the team striving to provide the best care and new perspectives for patients.
