The Turkish Cypriot website "Kıbrıs Postası" is reporting that the T/C 'government' plans to build a naval base in Rizokarpaso.

The T/C website refers to "reliable sources within the government" and to the 108 acres of EVKAF that were recently "rented" to the Turkish army.

According to the Kıbrıs Postası, it has long been discussed "that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which [recently] inaugurated Lefkonikos Airport using drones, will build a naval base for the Turkish Armed Forces".

The T/C website refers to "soil studies" that have already been carried out on the above issue.

According to the Turkish Cypriot website, the planned new naval base will contribute to the "faster development of warships accompanying drilling rigs in the Eastern Mediterranean". It will also contribute "to the maintenance-repair and supply support for ships operating in the area".

"Kıbrıs Postası" reminds that during the rent of the EVKAF area to the Turkish army no reference was made to the future use of the area and that some Turkish environmentalists state that the land is within the "Special Environmental Protection Zone".

The "Kıbrıs Postası" also hints that a new period is beginning for the implementation of the idea of "creating a naval base" in the occupied territories.
