In the ongoing investigation of an attempted murder on Monday (17/1) along Larnaca Avenue in Aglantzia, authorities are facing challenges as the 49-year-old target has left the country without providing a written statement to investigators.
Christos Andreou, the police spokesperson, revealed, "According to the information we had yesterday, the victim left for abroad," adding uncertainty about the planned nature of the trip.
Expressing concern, Andreou emphasized, "We are particularly concerned that the complainant has not given a statement to give us more details."
The 49-year-old, a well-known figure to authorities due to past involvement in serious cases, including drugs, became the target of an attack on Monday around 17:00. Unknown assailants opened fire on his vehicle while his 17-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter were present.
The first shot hit the windshield as his son approached a kiosk, and the second shot, fired when the victim attempted to leave the scene, hit the passenger window where his son was seated.
The incident suggests a settling of scores, given the target's criminal history. Notably, the 49-year-old had previously refused to provide a statement to investigators from the CID Nicosia.
As authorities continue the investigation, the lack of cooperation from the victim raises questions about the motive and details surrounding the attempted murder. The case underscores the complexity of resolving incidents involving individuals with a history of criminal activities.
