The online registration process for voters in Cyprus began on Thursday.

The application was developed in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, in view of the February 2023 presidential elections.

Registrations will be carried out in two stages, the Ministry of Interior announced.

The first stage of the e-service will go live on Thursday and will support applications for registration on the electoral roll for people aged 18 to 25, as well as those who will turn 18 on February 5, 2023.

Registration applies only to people between these ages, with their Cypriot nationality verified, and is only valid for people studying abroad. Turkish Cypriots with Republic identity cards and parents who are already on the electoral roll are also eligible to vote.

Those who are eligible can register to vote electronically at www.elections.gov.cy.

The second stage of the e-service will be completed before the European Parliament elections and local government elections in May 2024. It will accept applications from citizens over the age of 25. Prior to submitting the application, additional evidence certifying their six-month stay in the Republic is required. The service will also be linked to the database of the Social Insurance system to facilitate data certification.

The second stage will also include voters who have moved and Turkish Cypriots who live in government-controlled areas of Cyprus.
