Paphos airport on alert after woman arrives with high fever

Two men who accompanied the woman were quarantined

Paphos airport was on alert on Thursday after a woman who had flown in from Malta showed symptoms of high fever when tested by airport medics.

The woman, accompanied by two other Cypriot men, had arrived on a Ryan Air flight from Malta which landed at Paphos airport at 11:05am.

The two men, who had secured a medical certificate proving they were clear of the virus prior to boarding the flight, have been placed in quarantine, while the woman who presented fever symptoms has been taken under the wing of the medical services for further tests.

On Thursday, the Paphos airport is expected to see eight arriving and eight departing flights.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, some 300 Cypriot citizens in the United Kingdom and Greece have asked to be allowed to fly back to the island.

Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos said he was anticipating an official decree being issued on Thursday banning all flights starting on Saturday morning at 3am.
