Immigration police and state veterinary officials raided Nicosia’s race club on Thursday in a massive sweep operation.

According to police, officers armed with search warrants raided about 25 sheds and office spaces at the Agios Dhometios horse race track.

Four foreign nationals were detained while it was not immediately clear whether they were suspected of staying unlawfully in the Republic of Cyprus. Sources said police were checking their immigration status to ascertain whether there were any immigration violations.

Another local male was detained on charges of public disorderly conduct.

State veterinary officials also took part in the raid that was conducted early in the morning, with reports saying a number of medicines were confiscated.
