The Council of Ministers will shortly approve the new National Sanctions Impelmentation Unit, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said on Sunday, stressing that there can be no discussion when it comes to sanctions violation and the country’s image abroad.
His comments came as additional entities and natural persons associated with Cyprus were included in new sanctions announced by the US, Britain and Canada.
“In the coming days the Single Supervisory Mechanism will be forwarded to the Council of Ministers for approval" the President said pointing to his own public statements.
He added that the issue is being processed by the Finance Minister, it underwent legal vetting and will be tabled to the Council of Ministers.
With regard to sanctions and sanctions' violations, the President reiterated that the country’s reputation cannot be put into negotiation.
“I’ve said numerous times and I mean it, no one is above the country’s reputation,” he said.
Responding to a question on the issue of the LNG terminal and whether Nicosia is under pressure, Christodoulides refrained from making any comment, noting that there will be developments on the matter.
