Russian media are reporting that a gunman open fired at Perm University in Siberia killing at least 5 and injuring 2.
According to local sources, the gunman is a student who entered one of the University’s buildings and began shooting. He has since been apprehended and is in custody.
Video of the incident shows students jumping from first floor windows trying to escape.
Although Russia has strict rules on private gun ownership, other categories of guns are easily accessible such as those for hunting or self-defence. Civilians must first pass a test and meet specific requirements to own a gun.
No word yet on the reason behind the shooting.
