Police and labour officials investigate fatality after handyman dies trying to fix water tank

A wage earner was killed on the job on Thursday, after he fell from a two-storey building in Nicosia while trying to fix a water tank on the roof.

According to police, 66-year-old Efstathios Pandeli Hadjialexandrou from Anayia was called for repairs Thursday afternoon around 3pm to a residence in Strovolos, where climbed an exterior steel ladder in an effort to fix a roof tank.

Hadjialexandrou was on the ladder when he suddenly fell to the ground, under circumstances still pending investigation. The specific fall height was not immediately known.

The worker was rushed to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police officers and labour inspectors visited the scene, with the incident being described as a work-related accident.
