A jewelry store owner in Limassol was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after two men, who were staking her out at her penthouse, brutally attacked and robbed her Sunday morning.

According to local media, a 66-year-old woman in Limassol who owns a residential building in the Agia Fylakseos borough and a jewelry store was attacked Sunday morning around 8am, when she got out of her residence to take out the garbage.
The perpetrators, described as two males in their 30’s, most likely were staking the woman out on the fifth floor and carried out the attack in the stairway as soon as they had an opportunity, according to Limassol police spokesperson Ioannis Soteriades.

Local media said the woman was savagely beaten as one of the attackers, who was holding brass knuckles was striking her in the face.
Police said the two men turned the place upside down, grabbing jewelry, valuables, and cash before running away on foot. The value of the stolen goods and cash was not immediately known.
The woman, who later managed to grab a hold of a cordless phone, called her son who was staying at a different location. The son rushed to help his mother and then called the police and an ambulance.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, the woman was rushed to the Emergency Room with multiple skull fractures and broken bones throughout her body. Her condition was later described as critical but stable.
CNA also reported that police were told the two attackers, one of them speaking in a local Greek Cypriot accent while the other in broken Greek, got into a vehicle, described as a sedan driven by a third individual, before fleeing the scene at high speed.
Limassol police are investigating the case.
