The Republic of Cyprus is not involved in any way in the war conflicts, the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides stressed on Wednesday, noting that the Republic of Cyprus is part of the solution and not part of the problem.

Speaking to reporters, and invited to comment on threatening statements by Hezbollah's leader in Lebanon Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah against Cyprus, President Christodoulides noted that he has read the remarks made by Hezbollah's leader and pointed out that his answer is that the Republic of Cyprus is not involved in the war conflicts in any way.

“The Republic of Cyprus is not part of the problem, the Republic of Cyprus is part of the solution. And our role, as is manifested, for example, through the humanitarian corridor (to Gaza), is being recognized not only by the Arab world but by the entire international community” President of the Republic indicated.

And reiterated that Cyprus, is not in any way involved and is not part of the problem. “To the contrary, we demonstrate in practice that we are part of the solution” he noted.

Replying to a question whether there is still a communication channel with either Hezbollah or the Government of Lebanon, President of the Republic said that of course, there is a communication channel with both the Government of Lebanon and the Government of Iran. “There are channels of communication through the diplomatic route” he added.

Asked if he is worried about the remarks by Nasrallah, President Christodoulides said that the statements are not pleasant, and do not correspond in any case whatsoever to what is attempted, that is to present an image that Cyprus is involved in the war activities. “That is not the case whatsoever” he stressed.

Replying to a question whether he will have any communication with foreign leaders about these positions expressed by Hezbollah's leader Nasrallah, President of the Republic said “certainly, through the diplomatic route”.

“But I repeat that the actions of the Republic of Cyprus are made publicly and not in secret. The Republic of Cyprus is part of the solution and not part of the problem” he stated.
