Romanian man struck by oncoming traffic while trying to cross highway in west Nicosia

A man was killed in a highway accident in Nicosia after being struck by oncoming traffic west of the capital.

According to reports, a 63-year-old man from Romania was fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle as he was trying to cross an urban section of the highway in west Nicosia.

The Romanian man had just arrived from rural Nicosia and got off the bus, where he crossed the highway to get to a job interview

The incident took place Monday morning, around 7am, with the man being rushed to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Additional reports said the accident took place between the Anthoupoli and Archangelos exits, while the driver of the vehicle was reportedly not injured.

The exact location was described as the point between two bus stops in opposite directions, where pedestrians are not permitted to cross the four-lane motorway. It was not immediately clear whether a pedestrian crossing was available nearby.

Reports also said the the Romanian man had just arrived from rural Nicosia and got off the bus, with another male. He reportedly started crossing the highway to get to a job interview, while his friend stayed behind.
