A very old and rusted projectile discovered in the Akamas sea area has been declared harmless following a thorough examination by police bomb experts.
The projectile, initially feared to be a bomb, was spotted by a group of divers around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. It was located about 13 feet underwater and approximately 330 feet from the shore. The discovery prompted a response from the Paphos Port and Maritime Police.
Bomb disposal experts were called to inspect the object and determined it was an old piece of ammunition, heavily corroded and in a condition that made it unusable. The projectile has been secured and is being monitored by police to ensure continued safety.
