By Marina Karamanou

The 22nd annual "BANK OF CYPRUS Man of the Year Awards" took place today, Thursday, December 7, at The Royal Hall in Nicosia. Elena Paparizou entertained the guests, while a big surprise awaited the President of the Republic.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus celebrated his birthday and his name day yesterday, Wednesday, December 6, and apart from the surprise of his wife Philippa yesterday, another surprise was waiting for him.

After the end of Elena Paparizou's performance, a mysterious box was presented in front of the President.

Suddenly, he was brought a three-tier cake in beige and gold colors with candles spelling age 50. At the same time, the voice of Marilyn Monroe was heard singing in her inimitable way the now legendary "Happy birthday Mr. President".

It was on May 19, 1962, during President John Kennedy's 45th birthday celebration in New York, when Marilyn appeared on stage, causing the audience to fall silent.

After a moment of silence, "Happy Birthday to you" was heard, and the crowd reacted with admiration.

The sensual version of the song lasted a few seconds, but it was enough to go down in history.

Nikos Christodoulides then took to the stage and took to the stage to thank for the wonderful surprise, closing the impressive event in style.
