According to Kibris Postasi, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that the occupied territories have been admitted to the Organization of Turkish States as observers.
Cavusoglu announced on social media that "TRNC" has been accepted as an observer member of the Organization of Turkish States.
The Turkish foreign minister went on to say that his country has "always stood by" the occupied territories.
A separate article on the T/C website mentioned a speech given by Turkey's President to members of the Organization of Turkish States. "We contributed to the resolution process by demonstrating that our Turkish-speaking Cypriot brothers are not alone. I'd like to express my gratitude to you, my dear brothers and sisters, for demonstrating your solidarity," Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on the latest development.
Meanwhile, presidential candidate Averof Neofytou released a statement following the actions of Turkey, saying "I condemn in the strongest possible way the acceptance of the pseudo-state as an observer member of the Organization of Turkish States. It is yet another ploy by Turkey and an unfavorable development proving that Turkey continues to behave outside of international law, to the detriment of the Republic of Cyprus and the efforts to solve our national problem, foreshadowing that even more difficult days are coming in Cyprus as well. It is necessary to mobilize everyone to deal with the new achievements that Turkey is trying to impose".
