Police arrested a man on attempted murder charges following an incident in rural Nicosia, after his roommate showed up at a private hospital with an abdominal stab wound.
According to local media, a 25-year-old Egyptian national, who was injured and bleeding from a possible knife injury, was spotted by his employer who transported him to a Nicosia private clinic on Monday night.
Police said the injury resulted from a possible knife incident at a village in rural Nicosia, while the Egyptian man's roommate, a 23-year-old male from the same country, had emerged as a suspect during the course of a preliminary investigation.
There was no information about a possible motive or how the alleged incident started, but police said they detained the suspect on suspicion of attempted murder.
The injured man received medical treatment and he was reportedly in critical condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
The suspect is expected to appear before a Nicosia district judge on Tuesday for a remand hearing.
