Cyprus is taking another step toward a more digital future, with six new government services now available online through the Gov.cy portal. The move comes as part of the second phase of modernizing the Interior Ministry’s Population Registry, a key part of the Christodoulides administration’s push to cut red tape and make life easier for citizens.
From today, Cypriots at home and abroad can apply for or renew ID cards and passports for both adults and minors, even in cases of loss or damage, and make fast-track passport requests. New tools also allow online applications for refugee IDs, official recognition of displaced person (refugee) status, and even help users search the civil registry for family ties.
While some services, like getting a new ID or passport, still require an in-person visit to collect biometric data, others can be completed entirely online.
The digital tools were built by the State Ministry’s “Digital Services Factory” team and follow an earlier rollout in June 2024, which included services like reissuing birth and death certificates and issuing permanent residence or student origin certificates.
The government says these upgrades aim to slash unnecessary bureaucracy and wait times by giving people access to key documents from the comfort of their own homes.
“This is about building a modern, citizen-friendly state that works efficiently and eliminates hassle,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
