Six students expelled from Paphos Technical School

Ministry upholds expulsion decision but grants the students alternative school access amidst serious safety concerns

Newsroom / CNA

The secondary body of the Ministry of Education has officially approved the decision by the Teachers' Association of the Technical School in Paphos to expel six students. However, the students have been granted permission to attend alternative educational institutions in Paphos, according to Stefanos Eleftheriou, Director of the Technical School of Paphos.

Eleftheriou informed the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the majority of the expelled students, four out of six, have already applied to enroll in other schools within the Paphos province. Classes for these students are expected to start as early as Monday.

Stressing that the secondary body of the Ministry of Education found the Teachers' Association's actions appropriate both procedurally and substantively, Eleftheriou provided insights into the decision-making process.

The expulsion follows an incident approximately 20 days ago, in which six students are alleged to be involved, resulting in the serious injury of two students. Additionally, one of the expelled students is implicated in a recent incident occurring just a few days ago, where a teacher was injured by a thrown chair.

The Ministry's backing of the Teachers' Association's decision underscores a commitment to maintaining a safe and secure educational environment.
