Three new coronavirus cases were detected in the Republic of Cyprus on Wednesday when 2,251 tests were conducted, raising total cases recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic to 1,514.
One new case involved a resident of the Pournara refugee camp in Kokkinotrimithia, who arrived from Syria via Turkey and the north on September 5.
Another new case involved a man who arrived in Cyprus from the Philippines on September 4 to work on a vessel of a shipping company. The health ministry said the man showed fever and anosmia symptoms upon arrival was got tested privately on September 6. He was transferred to the Eden resort for isolation.
The third new case involves a local person who developed symptoms of anosmia and myalgia and got tested at a microbiology lab of a general hospital.
The Famagusta general hospital is currently treating three coronavirus patients, one of which is in the ICU, while one more coronavirus patient is receiving treatment at the Nicosia general hospital ICU.
