Cost of basic consumer goods continues to rise

The cost of basic consumer goods continues to rise in Cyprus.  Between June 8 to July 13, the largest increase was recorded in Vegetables (greenhouse cucumbers) reaching 52.2%, according to the data published on Friday by the Consumer Protection Agency of Cyprus.

During the same period, a large increase was recorded in the prices of certain oils up to 16.8% and pulses up to 16.5%, but also in sugar up to 13.8%, in fresh fish 13.7%, in frozen food up to 10.8%, canned goods 8.6%, baked goods up to 8%, water 6.5%, yogurt 6.4% and fresh milk 6.1%.

Average selling price

Specifically, the average selling price for fresh milk on July 13 ranged from €1.49 to €2.85, showing an increase of up to 14 cents, compared to June 8, 2022.

Compared to the average price of rice/legumes, this ranged from €1.44 to €5.98, marking an increase of up to 37 cents.

Also, the average price of yogurt ranged from €1.87 to €4.26, an increase of up to 26 cents, while the average price of coffee ranged from €2.74 to €7.00, an increase of up to 13 cents, and in some cases going as low as 33 cents.

The average price of flour/sugar/eggs ranged from €1.08 to €2.60, showing an increase of up to 13 cents, while the average price of cheese rose from €1.62 to €7.16, up 24 cents compared to June 8.

Cereals averaged €2.42 to €3.86, up 7 cents, while cold meats sold between €2.55 and €3.88, up 16 cents, compared to June 8, 2022.

The average price of canned goods ranged from €1.09 to €8.10 with an increase of up to 25 cents, the average price of water ranged from €2.17 to €2.85 with an increase of up to 13 cents, while the average price of frozen food ranged from €3.72 to €17.15 with an increase of up to 59 cents.

In addition, the average price of pasta ranged from €1.29 to €1.69 with an increase of up to 6 cents, while the average price of vegetables ranged from €0.38 to €1.83 with an increase of up to 52 cents in the case of tomato.

The average price of fresh local meat ranged from €3.80 to €10.28 with an increase of up to 20 cents, while the average price of fresh fish ranged from €9.65 to €22.92, showing an increase of up to 1. 72 euros, while in the case of Barbouni there was a large decrease of 4.42 euros.

The average price of baked goods went from €1.32 to €2.00, an increase of up to 10 cents, while the average price of oils/gels went from €0.44 to €11.93, an increase of up to 1.64 euros, compared to June 8, 2022.

Finally, the average price of a gas tank decreased in the same period by 30 cents, with its average price reaching €15.99.
