More than 4,000 people visited the "Patient's Guide" website between the beginning of November and the end of January, according to Alexia Makridou, Communications and Public Relations Manager of the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO). She noted that the website recorded over 20,000 page views.

The website was launched in early November 2024 and, according to Ms. Makridou, serves as a valuable tool for citizens seeking information on all aspects of the General Health System (GHS).

Speaking to CYPE, Ms. Makridou stated, "The aim of the project is to provide easy-to-understand information and guidance on GHS services, with the ultimate goal of fostering a culture of responsible use of these services and ensuring the best possible experience for beneficiaries."

She explained that the website was developed in collaboration with the Cyprus Federation of Patients’ Associations (CyFPA) and includes specialized information and answers regarding all GHS services, particularly for chronic patients.

Specifically, it provides details on the services offered by the GHS, the procedures for accessing them, associated costs, and citizens' rights and obligations within the system. Additionally, it features specialized information for chronic patients, starting with those affected by conditions such as thalassemia, kidney disease, rheumatism, diabetes, attention deficit disorder, stroke, idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease, congenital heart disease, and organ transplants.

Regarding the content of the guide, the HIO’s Communications and Public Relations Manager noted that it is structured in a question-and-answer format, categorized by service type and chronic condition. It includes responses to the most frequently asked questions received by the HIO from citizens.

In response to a question, Ms. Makridou confirmed that the "Patient's Guide" will be continuously updated and is available in both Greek and English.

She encouraged citizens to prioritize their health by familiarizing themselves with the services offered by the GHS through the "Patient's Guide."

Users can access the website directly at https://patientjourneycy.org or via the GHS website, www.gesy.org.cy. To further inform the public, the agency has also produced three short informational videos, available on the homepage of the "Patient's Guide."

March campaign on beneficiaries' rights and obligations
Additionally, Ms. Makridou announced that in March, the HIO will launch a major public information campaign featuring various activities and initiatives. The campaign will focus on highlighting the role of personal physicians within the GHS and providing comprehensive information on beneficiaries' rights and obligations regarding the services offered by personal physicians.
