The bones discovered on November 15 in Akamas have been positively identified as belonging to John Hugo, a 69-year-old British man and a permanent resident of Cyprus, according to statements from Assistant Police Operations Director Michael Nicolaou to CNA.

John Hugo was reported missing on March 24, 2023, and a necropsy was conducted on Monday by forensic pathologist Nicolas Charalambous and an anthropologist from the Missing Persons' Committee (MMP). The examination found no evidence of criminal involvement, as reported by Nicolaou.

The discovery of the bones and accompanying clothing was made by a member of the Paphos Police Directorate during a hunting expedition in a remote area of Akamas, who subsequently alerted the authorities.
