The Nicosia International Festival 2024, which actively participates in Nicosia’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2030, is developing its theatrical co-creation workshop "Exploring the Theatre", with the support of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.

As the Festival says in a press release, the five-day theatrical co-creation workshop for children aged 9 - 12 will commence on August 26, 2024, at the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia. The museum's experienced team will guide the children through its permanent and temporary exhibitions so that they can discover the history of Nicosia and "experience" their city through the exhibits. Surrounded by these rich historical collections, they will begin to write their play inspired by the history of their city.

It is further noted that for the remaining days, August 27 – 30, the children will be based at the modern facilities of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre where, together with theatre professionals, they will experience the different professions that participate in staging a play, they will complete their own "Nicosia" play, which they shall direct themselves, prepare the lighting design and bring their play to life on the stage of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. They will also write their music and lyrics and create their poster. And all this with plenty of fun and theatre games.

Eleni Anastasiou (director, dramaturg), Stavros Stavrou (lyricist, playwright, philologist), Andreas Michalopoulos (composer, pianist, music teacher), Sosanna Tomazou (set designer, costume designer), Ioanna Kordatou (actress) and Myria Argyrou (actress) shall run the theatrical co-creation workshop. Alongside the members of the Nicosia International Festival team: George G. Papageorgiou (artistic director), Christos Charalambous (lighting designer), Sotos Charalambous (sound engineer), Nikolas Prokopiou (sound engineer) and Andreas Sofokleous (production officer).
