Cyprus records 36 bounced cheques totaling €78,108 in August

Central Bank monitors 23 offenders in Cyprus

A total of 36 bounced cheques, worth €78,108, were issued in August 2023, with 23 persons (7 legal entities and 16 natural persons) registered in the preliminary list of the Central Information Register for the Issuers of Dishonoured Cheques (CIR), maintained by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).

During the first eight months of 2023, according to data announced by the CBC on Monday, 269 cheques with a total value of €693,918 were registered in the preliminary list of the CIR, involving 153 persons (80 legal entities and 73 individuals), recording a decrease compared to the same period of 2022, when 316 cheques with a total value of €1,079,534 were registered.

In addition, according to CBC data, 14 persons were registered in the CIR in August 2023, of which 4 are legal entities, 5 natural persons and 5 natural persons controlling legal entities.

During the period January - August 2023, a total of 193 persons were registered in the CIR, compared to 155 persons in the same period in 2022.
