Many government websites in Cyprus starting to operate again after awkward basement incident

The government servers are gradually operating again as of Tuesday evening following the water leak at a basement next to the room where they are located at the Ministry of Finance.

The leak was noticed on Monday afternoon and all the systems were shut down as a precaution. Efforts immediately began to restore and assess the damage.

Many government websites have already started to operate. The public was given instructions for alternative solutions in their accommodation online due to the issues encountered.

Yesterday evening, the Ministry of Finance announced on twitter that the systems of the government hub, are operating to 80%, thanks to the admirable efforts of the IT Services Department.

An investigation into the incident was ordered to establish why a Cabinet decision made last November to transfer the servers to Cyta was not implemented.
