Two individuals were arrested yesterday afternoon in Limassol for allegedly starting a fire in the Trooditissa State Forest, claiming they were attempting to light a shisha.
Police received a report at around 6 p.m. that two people had ignited a fire near an excursion site in the state forest. Officers from the Platres police station responded to the scene and found two men, aged 22 and 21, in possession of a hookah, charcoal, and lighters.
According to police testimony, the suspects were seen starting a small fire using wood in a ravine with wild vegetation, which they extinguished once they realized they had been noticed.
During questioning, the suspects claimed they had lit the fire to ignite the hookah coals after their gas lighter failed.
A judicial arrest warrant was issued for the two men on charges including causing a fire in a state forest. They are expected to appear before the Limassol District Court today for a detention hearing. The site remains under police guard as investigations continue.
