New brand identity to showcase Larnaca's rich heritage

Larnaca’s new brand identity was presented on Friday aimed at attracting more tourism to the coastal town. Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, described the presentation of the city's new brand identity as a “milestone” for Larnaca’s tourism.

Larnaca’s new brand identity, he said, was shaped to reflect the authentic identity of the city and the special characteristics of the district, including its rich history, local gastronomy “and, above all, the adoption of sustainable practices” in the tourism development process.

In his greeting at the presentation by the Larnaca Tourism Board of the city's new identity, the Deputy Minister of Tourism said that the creation of a new brand identity for a destination that is constantly being upgraded as regards tourism, was imperative, since the tourism environment was becoming more and more competitive.

Koumis noted that, rebranding did not just mean changing a logo, or an advertising slogan, but also collective effort and willingness to restart. That is why it is important this effort to be embraced by all who make up the tourism ecosystem of the destination, he added.

The Deputy Minister, referring to the city and district of Larnaca, noted their high archaeological, historical and touristic importance, since, he said, it is among the very few cities in the world with a continuous history of existence spanning more than 4000 years, which, he added, is also confirmed through the many exhibits in museums, archaeological sites, as well as through its architecture and traditions. Noting the proximity of the international airport and the port to Larnaca’s city centre, Koumis said this was an advantage compared to most other cities.

These elements, he said, “combined with the rich history and tradition, culture, as well as its beautiful, organised beaches, and the culinary options it offers, make Larnaca a year-round attractive destination, ideal for every visitor”. He also referred to important monuments that, as he said, attract interest from all over the world, such as the Church of Saint Lazarus, the Hala Sultan Mosque, the Neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia as well as the picturesque mountainous villages of the Larnaca district such as Lefkara, which, in 2021, was awarded by the World Tourism Organization “as one of the most beautiful tourist villages in the world”.

Koumis also said that dozens of new hotels have opened in the city and district of Larnaca in recent years and that this was likely to continue in the coming years.

As regards the redevelopment of the port and marina of Larnaca, he said that the Government's goal was to announce the tender for the project again as soon as possible, noting that this was a project “that will have a very positive impact for the city, the district of Larnaca, but also for the whole country.”

During the event, 25 service providers presented the activities they offer that highlight the multidimensional tourist experience of the city.
